Wiseman Kubheka (class of 1998) is a constant and pleasant sight at all the MUT alumni gatherings, regardless of when and where they are held. This has allowed him many opportunities to meet and engage with the MUT leadership, including the current MUT vice-chancellor, Dr Enoch Malaza, whom he met during the alumni homecoming weekend on 15 and 16 June 2019. This speaks greatly about his passion for his alma mater. Travelling more than 625km to come to MUT, he has always heeded the call to be present and reconnect with his lecturers, classmates and roommates. To top it all off, on 15 June this year Wiseman had the great privilege of meeting with the MUT Founder, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, at the MUT Alumni Reunion which was hosted as part of the University’s 40th celebrations.
“I am very fond of MUT due to the training I received when I did my Public Management diploma from 1995 to 1997. The dedicated lecturers remain an inspirational force in my mind. I found that as MUT graduates, we are on par with graduates from other institutions, even those from abroad. Let me not forget to thank the Honourable Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi for his foresight in founding our University. Ngithi MNTWANA isandla sidlula ikhanda, I salute you for giving us the eternal gift of education,” said Wiseman.
Wiseman was born and raised in Dundee, KZN, where he did his primary and high school education. Since graduating from MUT, he has served the public sector for more than twenty years in various departments and roles. He is currently based in Pretoria and works for the Department of Home Affairs as a supervisor for refugee determination and interpretation services. He also has more than ten years of experience in academia, having worked for the former Technikon SA as a part-time lecturer. Since 2008 he has also been working as an academic tutor for UNISA’s Public Management department.
