VC writes a column for a top newspaper

MUT Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marcus Ramogale

Professor Marcus Ramogale, acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal this week joined one of the thought leaders with his column accepted by one of the country’s top newspapers, The Daily Maverick. This is a huge opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor and the University community as the VC lays bare how the country can move forward if everyone could become resourceful. “What the country needs urgently is a national project whose aim is to instil in people a strong, positive mindset that will give them the confidence to stand.

Professor Ramogale’s article represents what he has always believed in, the power of creating employment instead of waiting for a job to come to someone’s rescue. For this philosophy to succeed, the VC has read wide-ranging books on entrepreneurship and pushed students and graduates to new frontiers in entrepreneurship. “We have planted a seed on our students and graduates to solve problems faced by society by creating entrepreneurial skills for themselves and society”.  An MUT student has been chosen as an entrepreneurship ambassador to travel to the UK in May for three weeks because of this foresight by the VC to include entrepreneurship as a module in the Faculty of Management Sciences.

The VC’s column was a great inspiration to the entire university community and was lauded by staff who admired the quality of the content.  Commenting on the article, Dr Manyane Makua, Acting DVC: Teaching and Learning said: “This makes for high-level reading material which I recommend be shared with the University community. What an articulate and incisive piece of writing.”
