MUT Statement on the deferred registration because of water challenges at some areas in the EThekwini Municipality

Submitted by Bheki Hlophe Hlophe@mut.ac.za

MUT Executive Management held an emergency meeting on 29 January 2024 where it resolved as follows:

  • To postpone the registration of returning students until Monday 5 February 2024.
  • To register only First-Time-Entering-Students (FTENs) from Wednesday 31 January 2024 until 4 February 2024.
  • To move registration online but noting that only students who cannot register online will be assisted.

The MUT Executive Management also resolved that a certain category of staff members should remain on campus to provide a seamless registration process given that some of the First-Time-Entering-Students would need critical support.

The University is currently in the process of procuring mobile toilets and bottled water for the skeletal staff on campus. It was agreed that in the interest of maintaining good hygiene that the rest of the staff must stay at home and work remotely until further notice.

Executive Management also resolved that considering the deferred registration, the Academic Calendar will in due course be adjusted accordingly by the Office of the Registrar for approval by the University Senate.
