On 28 May 2024, the Department of Human Resources and Development (HR&D) announced the launch of the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The service will be launched on 1 June 2024. The service is provided by Lyra Southern Africa, formerly ICAS Southern Africa, and is available to employees and their dependents. The services are confidential and professionally managed. The Director of the department, Bheki Shezi, said they were hoping that the service would assist staff and their families in achieving personal well-being, both at work and at home, “providing you with a win-win solution to enhance your resilience”.
According to Shezi, MUT staff and their families can access professional support to help them deal with the following problems: anxiety, stress, parenting, and relationships so they can thrive. Shezi said the aim of the EAP was to prevent problems from building up, “by dealing with issues early and effectively”.
