A student, squatting, was one of the food parcels recipients
The University’s students continue to benefit from a solid partnership between its Department of Marketing and Communications and the Gift of the Givers. Mbali Mkhize, Senior Director of the department, said they created to pantry as they were made aware of the number of students that needed such help.
On 26 and 27 July 2023, 279 students of all levels of study, descended on the recently opened pantry where they were given different types of food parcels, and canned food. These included rice, teabags, instant porridge, cooking oil, milk, and table salt. The majority of the University’s students are from indigent families. These students are not funded by the government financial aid system called NSFAS.
