Born and raised in Umlazi, she has a deep connection to her roots and has faced socio-economic challenges firsthand. Her journey from a nurse to a distinguished academic leader is marked by a profound commitment to education, community health, and women’s empowerment. During her tenure as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Engagement, she has been instrumental in shaping the university’s community-focused strategy.
Her initiatives in youth empowerment, digital literacy, and health education have created a lasting impact, making her an exemplary figure in both academia and her community. A historic milestone marking the appointment of Professor Nokuthula Sibiya as the first Umlazi-born female Vice-Chancellor during the institution’s 45th anniversary.
Professor Sibiya took the reigns as Vice-Chancellor & Principal of Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT).
This milestone underscores the university’s longstanding legacy of shaping future leaders and its dedication to advancing higher education in South Africa. Her vision for MUT includes enhancing the university’s research capabilities, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and establishing globally competitive academic programs. Professor Sibiya’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Nursing, Honors in Nursing Administration, and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Administration. She is a C2-rated scientist by the National Research Foundation (NRF).

Ntombi Mlambo began her legal profession in 2009 after graduating from the University of Pretoria with an LLB. In 2010, she began her articles at Eversheds International, where she worked in the Commercial Litigation and Labour Departments. After relocating to Cape Town in March 2011, she joined Gunstons Standvik Mlambo Attorneys (GSM), formerly known as Gunston Standvik Attorneys (GSA) before becoming a partner. She oversaw the Johannesburg and Durban branches as Managing Director. While at GSM, Ntombi was also the head of the Commercial and Litigation department. She has handled various high-profile matters for a variety of high-net-worth and large business clients at Eversheds International and GSM Law, respectively. She obtained her LLM in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town in 2016. She is also a University of Cape Town certificate holder in Insurance Law. She also serves on the boards of several corporations and non-governmental organizations. Thus making her a force to be reckoned with.
Ntombi has recently launched her own law firm, Mlambo and Associates. A proudly black female-owned law business that is deeply committed to meaningful development and empowerment. Ntombi, as the Founder and Managing Director, had the desire to start her own law firm.
This led to the creation of Mlambo & Associates. Mlambo & Associates provides a broad range of services primarily in the financial services industry and is located in the major cities of Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town,
respectively. The law firm currently employs 9 staff members and is supported by trusted consultants who share the same values as them. Collectively, the team have over 30 years’ experience in the legal industry. While she is passionate about her work, she is motivated by her dedication to and customer satisfaction.
She is a courageous leader and a natural thinker specializing in Commercial Litigation, Commercial Law, Insurance Law, and Pension Fund Law.
