The University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Marcus Ramogale, has joined the multitudes that have voiced their condolences to the family of the University Chancellor, Sandile Zungu, his football club, AmaZulu, and the Ntuli family. On 5 November 2023, AmaZulu Football Club issued a statement announcing the passing away of their centre forward, Bonginkosi Ntuli. Ntuli was a son-in-law of the University Chancellor, Zungu. He was laid to rest yesterday.

In his letter to the Chancellor, Professor Ramogale said, “my office has been alerted about the loss of your son-in-law, Mr Bonginkosi Ntuli. This is not only shocking, but also saddening to see parents burying their children. We also noted that Mr Ntuli was only 32 years old and had just married your daughter, Sinenjabulo. This is truly a great loss to your family, AmaZulu Football Club and all the soccer-loving South Africans. Bongi’s skills and expertise will be solely missed”.

Professor Ramogale noted that Ntuli made 281 appearances and scored 75 goals in his Premier Soccer League career. Ntuli played for Platinum Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu FC.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, said Professor Ramogale.
