MUT Student Brand Ambassadors

Purpose

The main purpose of this position is to raise enthusiastic MUT Student Ambassadors who will be the face and voice of the MUT brand among the student body. As a successful candidate, you will be involved in increasing awareness about the importance of protecting the brand and promoting student programmes from various departments within MUT across various channels. You will work closely with the Directorates of Student Affairs, Learning & Teaching, Marketing & Communication, Community Engagement & Development, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to achieve MUT’s strategic objectives and transform the student culture, inculcate a scholarly culture and changed student behaviour. To excel in this role, you will need excellent communication skills, networking skills and strong presence on social media.

Requirements

  • Registered MUT student
  • Excellent writing and speaking in the two official languages used by the University, English and isiZulu
  • Ability to conceptualise and execute student activations across all MUT campuses
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel for work

Internal                student communication Provide input into the development of appropriate internal student communication models and channels. Build and promote external networks and develop sources of information from students, staff and stakeholders.

Produce documentation for effective communication of policies, information, events, newsworthy stories to students [in consultation with Marcomms.

Cover major events and issues at MUT Conduct follow-up/surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies to students.

Enhanced MUT brand awareness and reputation Corporate identity established

Administration Attend to logistics during events and campaigns. Student success activities are well organized
Assist with data capturing onto the system/platform of choice. Information is stored and protected for contextualized programming and responsive interventions
Manage information electronically and manually.
Marketing Assist with marketing of all student success activities (workshops, events,  campaigns, seminars etc) in and out of the classroom, as well as on and off campus. All stakeholders are informed of, and encouraged to participate in student success   initiatives   forcontextualized programming and responsive interventions

 

Assist in developing materials. Available services are advertised electronically and in print on various platforms (social media, notice boards etc)
Produce articles for student success newsletter. Student success activities are communicated internally and externally
Programme Implementation Participate in administration of student engagement surveys. Relevant student data is collected at different levels of study to inform teaching & learning as well as student support programmes
Encourage student participation                           in projects designed to amplify the student voice. The learner-centred philosophy is applied and students become co-creators of knowledge instead of “passive” consumers
Monitoring, evaluation                       and reporting (MER) Collect qualitative and quantitative data for project impact assessment ( Project success and impact is measured to determine efficiency for reporting to DHET

Impact assessment results are used for reflexivity/praxis purposes

Conflict Management Report on and assist in the  resolution of conflicts    within the University. Creation of a harmonious learning and working environment
Crucial conversations Facilitate conversations on matters related to teaching and learning. Create an environment where students and staff can share opinions openly for the good of the University
Student entrepreneurship Work with other Units to promote student entrepreneurship. Nurture                    entrepreneurial skills amongst the students.
Student exchange programmes Work with students on exchange programmes within the University. Provide a holistic and fulfilling experience of learning, living and teaching to students on exchange programmes
Promote Equity Diversity and Inclusion Report on matters that negatively affect equity, diversity and inclusion. Nurture an inclusive working and learning environment.
Funding Applications                        for student programmes Write proposals for fundraising from external sources for student programmes and activities. Ensure that there are enough resources to run student programme.
Monitoring and evaluation for Report timeously on challenges that may impact negatively on The quality of teaching and learning,  as  well  as  the
