Two standout MUT bodybuilders are set to take their talent to the global stage as they prepare to fly out to Santa Susana, Barcelona, to compete in the prestigious International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Challenge. Nduduzo Ndebele, 20, an Agricultural Crop Production student, will represent the team in the silver fitness category. Meanwhile, Nhlakanipho Zuma, 22, who is studying Accounting, will lock horns with international competitors in the gold fitness category. The pair will depart for Spain on October 27, 2026.

Both athletes earned their international tickets through a stellar domestic season. The pair dominated the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Games in July, where Ndebele took top honours in the silver category, and Zuma clinched victory in the gold category. They carried that dominant momentum into the South African Championships, with both bodybuilders claiming gold medals to cement their position as the nation’s best.

Despite the magnitude of the upcoming event, both athletes remain focused on the task ahead. “We are a bit frightened by the occasion, but we are excited to get the chance to go and perform in Spain,” said Ndebele. Zuma emphasized that their rigorous preparation has built up both physical resilience and mental toughness. “We are now well prepared, physically and mentally. We know what to expect over there, and our stamina levels and endurance are high,” he said.

“I am so proud of my young stars from the development team,” coach Maxwell ‘Bulldozer’ Nxumalo said. “They are among the most disciplined and fast-improving athletes I’ve trained. Going into the World Championships, I have full trust that they can finish in the top three in the world.”

Nxumalo added that guiding his students to international competition is the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition. “I can’t explain the excitement I feel. Taking my students to the international level has always been my dream, and seeing it come true as they join me as Proteas is incredible.”

Ndebele and Zuma are scheduled to wrap up their competition and return home on 2 November 2026.
