Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is set to celebrate the academic milestones of over 3,000 students at its annual graduation ceremony, taking place from 21 to 23 April 2026, at the iconic Seme Hall on the main campus.

The three-day event will see students awarded a wide range of qualifications, including Diplomas, Post-Graduate Diplomas, Bachelor’s degrees, Advanced Diplomas, and Master’s degrees. The Faculty of Management Sciences leads the cohort with 1,557 graduates, followed by the Faculty of Engineering, which will graduate 1,090 students. The Faculty of Applied Sciences will conclude the celebrations on the final day, conferring qualifications upon 500 students.

A particular highlight of this year’s ceremony comes from the Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences. While graduating a smaller cohort overall, the faculty will confer 73 highly specialised degree qualifications. This includes two Master’s degrees in Nature Conservation and 71 degrees in Medical Laboratory Sciences, a critical qualification provided by the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Academic excellence will be on full display across the Institution, with 22 students from the three faculties achieving their qualifications cum laude, and three exceptional individuals being recognised as the top achievers in their respective faculties.

Organisers have assured attendees that all logistical and safety preparations are complete. Following a final committee meeting on 15 April 2026, the organising committee leader, Zolisa Gqamane, confirmed the University’s preparedness. “We are 100% ready. Everything is in place,” Gqamane stated. The readiness Gqamane is referring to includes the issuance of graduation tickets, which started on 14 April 2026 and will continue until the last day of the ceremony.

To ensure the safety and smooth transit of thousands of guests, the University has implemented strict traffic and security protocols. Throughout the three days, all vehicles will be required to enter through the main campus gate and exit exclusively through the Seme Hall gate. MUT Protection Services will be heavily deployed to assist parents and students with directions. Furthermore, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Durban Metro Police will be stationed in and around the University to manage traffic and provide additional security.

The University has also issued a firm notice to all graduates, parents, and guardians regarding graduation services. To protect attendees from unverified vendors, MUT has mandated that students work exclusively with officially appointed service providers: Mshazi Photographers for all official photography and House of Graduates for academic attire. No unofficial service providers or vendors will be permitted within the University premises.
