MUT is set to play a central role in South Africa’s democratic discourse when it hosts major news broadcaster eNCA for the ‘We the Nation Townhall Debate’ on 11 October 2026. The televised event will bring together political party representatives to debate critical local government issues as the nation prepares to head to the polls for municipal elections on 4 November 2026. The broadcast forms part of eNCA’s national drive to provide political leaders with a platform to outline solutions to local governance challenges and directly engage voters ahead of the vote.

Mbali Mkhize, Senior Director of the Department of Marketing and Communications at MUT, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration. “Through hosting the eNCA Townhall, the University has an opportunity to strengthen MUT’s national brand visibility and reputation, positioning the Institution as a credible platform for public and intellectual discourse,” said Mkhize. “The debate will expose our students to democratic debate and civic participation beyond the classroom, while strengthening MUT’s relationship with eNCA and the broader national media sector,” she added.

The townhall promises to bring dynamic political debate directly to campus, placing MUT students and the surrounding community at the heart of the national conversation ahead of Election Day.
