On 2 October 2026, MUT bade farewell to one of its senior managers, who has served the Institution since 2014 as Head of the Clinic. Addressing her Clinic colleagues for the last time as their Head, Sister Nomusa Mkhwanazi thanked everyone for the relationship she had with them over the years. She highlighted how each department added value to the success of MUT’s Health Services. Sister Mkhwanazi was indeed humbled by various positive sentiments about her work and “the legacy she leaves at MUT, such as being known as the Nursing Sister that made decisions for the University’s state of health readiness during the difficult COVID-19 pandemic”, as pointed out by Dr Xolile Ngubane, Senior Director in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Various staff members noted her professionalism, her innovative approach as Head of Health Services at MUT and most importantly, “her healthy lifestyle which focused on a good diet and great workouts”.

Sister Mkhwanazi’s immediate colleague, Sister Khanyisile Gasa, describing her professional relationship with Sister Mkhwanazi, said the retiring Head “never said no to a good deal if it was going to improve her department.”  Appealing to staff to maintain their professional approach, Sister Mkhwanazi reminded them to “spread kindness and continue treating the students well”.

Sister Mkhwanazi was accompanied by her daughter, Nelisa Khanyile, and her friend, Zanele Mazeka. The love displayed by Sister Mkhwanazi’s colleagues and friends showed a beautiful side of MUT: many good people.
