Four MUT Campus Radio presenters have earned an exciting opportunity to attend one of Africa’s premier automotive and lifestyle events after being selected to represent the station at the upcoming Gas Motorshow International. The selected presenters are Grace Ramokaelo, Siyanda Khumalo, Qhawe Qwabe, and Nomndeni Shongwe. The initiative was spearheaded by Zama Sishi, Director: Stakeholder Relations as part of MUT’s ongoing commitment to providing students with exposure to high-profile events that enhance their professional development, broaden their industry networks, and strengthen their personal brands.

MUT Campus Radio Programmes Manager and Head of News, Awethu Keletse, was tasked with identifying suitable representatives from the station and selected what he described as “the best of the best” from among the station’s talented presenters.

Zama Sishi said, “The students will attend the Gas Motorshow International 2026, which takes place at Suncoast Durban on 13 and 14 June 2026. The event is regarded as one of Africa’s leading automotive and lifestyle festivals, attracting thousands of visitors, industry leaders, media practitioners, content creators, and influencers from across the country and beyond.”

While the event is renowned for showcasing supercars, custom-built vehicles, classics, motorcycles, drifting, spinning, and live entertainment, it also offers a valuable learning platform for aspiring broadcasters and media practitioners. The festival brings together diverse audiences, major brands, celebrities, and industry personalities, creating an ideal environment for student presenters to sharpen their interviewing, storytelling, content creation, and live-event broadcasting skills. For radio presenters, events of this scale provide practical exposure to audience engagement, event reporting, networking, and multimedia content production. The experience allows students to observe how large-scale events are marketed, managed, and covered by the media while also providing opportunities to interact with professionals working in broadcasting, public relations, event management, and digital media.

Awethu Kelese, MUT Radio’s Programme Manager, said, “The selected presenters are expected to bring back valuable insights and experiences that will further enrich programming at MUT Campus Radio while inspiring fellow students interested in careers in media and communications. The opportunity reflects MUT’s commitment to experiential learning and student development, ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom and studio into real-world environments where future professionals can gain practical industry exposure.”

As the university continues to nurture the next generation of broadcasters, communicators, and content creators, opportunities such as these demonstrate the value of strategic partnerships and industry engagement in preparing students for successful careers in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
