MUT mourns with former staff members following family bereavements

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has expressed its deep condolences following the recent losses suffered by two distinguished former staff members, Dr Thobekile Luthuli and Mr. Aubery Notshweleka. The University was saddened to receive news of the passing of Mr Clement Luthuli, husband to Dr Thobekile Luthuli, and Melusi Notshweleka, the son of Aubery Notshweleka.

Both Dr Luthuli and Notshweleka are remembered as integral figures in the growth of the Institution. Dr Luthuli previously served as the Head of the Department of Communication within the Faculty of Management Sciences;  Notshweleka holds a historic place in the University’s timeline, being among the first group of students to graduate from MUT during its years as a technikon. He then served the Institution in various capacities, most notably as the Head of the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences.

The Senior Director of the Department of Marketing and Communications, Mbali Mkhize, noted that while staff may move on from the Institution, they remain part of the MUT family. “The news of the passing of Mr Luthuli and Melusi came as a shock to us,” Mkhize stated. “It serves as a poignant reminder of how important it is to always care for both our current and former staff members. Although they have left the Institution, they are certainly not forgotten.”

Professor Marcus Ramogale, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Teaching and Learning to whom both the two colleagues reported to at some point sent heartfelt condolences to them in an email directed to Mkhize.

The University has shared the following details regarding the final rites; Mr Luthuli’s funeral service will be held this coming Saturday at the Lutheran Church, where he will be laid to rest; the details regarding the funeral arrangements for Melusi will be communicated to the University community in due course. MUT extends its thoughts and prayers to the Luthuli and Notshweleka families during this difficult time of mourning.
