MUT is preparing to welcome its latest cohort of future engineers, with the official registration period for the second-semester intake scheduled to run from 13 to 17 July 2026. The University has 650 spaces available for first-time entering students within the Faculty of Engineering for the second semester. The selection process is already well underway. As of 9 July 2026, more than 550 candidates have already been extended firm offers through the Central Applications Office (CAO) system. University officials confirmed that this number will continue to rise as the student selection process concludes over the coming days.
In addition to the direct CAO applications, a significant portion of the incoming student body will be drawn from MUT’s internal “Pre-Tech” bridging course. This cohort consists of dedicated students who have just completed a six-month foundational programme that began in January 2026.
Candidates who have received firm offers have been notified via SMS and official letters detailing the next steps. The financial requirements for registration are structured as follows: Diploma Candidates will be required to pay a minimum registration deposit of R2 275. This financial deposit is waived for students who are fully funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). Also, bridging course (PreTech) candidates are excluded from the standard diploma deposit and are expected to make a full payment of R14 560 prior to registration.
Once an applicant has accepted their MUT offer, either by making the required payment or securing verified NSFAS funding, they will be sent a secure link to complete their registration online.
The University Housing department also assured the prospective student that “the residences are ready for occupation. Given that returning students for the second semester will be reporting to their previously allocated residences, the occupation process is expected to be smooth,” said Sphakamiso Madlala, Housing Superintendent. Madlala added that first-time entering students will be accommodated in the residences reserved for first-year students on the main campus. More first-time students will be accommodated at residences located in the Montclair area, said Madlala. “We are fully prepared to receive both returning and first-time entering students,” Madlala concluded.
To ensure a seamless transition, the MUT Call Centre is fully operational and equipped to handle all registration enquiries for both new and returning students. Applicants seeking assistance or clarification regarding their admission status can reach out to the University via email at info@mut.ac.za or by calling 031 819 9299.
