MUT embraces #JoyMagenta: Global Wellness Day Campaign sparks holistic health and staff support

HR&D staff arrived early. Here they are the main gate of main campus waiting for staff

In a vibrant alignment with a worldwide movement, Mangosuthu University of Technology has officially launched its latest wellness initiative, embracing the global theme #JoyMagenta. The campaign champions joy as a conscious practice to fuel gratitude, connection, movement, and creativity, countering the heavy pressures of modern life.

The global celebration took place on Saturday, 13 June 2026, but MUT’s Human Resources and Development (HR&D) department kick-started the energy early. On Friday, 12 June 2026, campus gates were transformed into welcoming spaces of reflection and wellness education. As employees arrived at the main campus gate and the North Campus gate on Friday morning, they were greeted by the HR&D team for a unique Global Wellness Day activation. The campaign encouraged staff to pause and reflect on the crucial role joy plays in enhancing emotional, mental, and physical health.

This initiative highlights MUT’s deep commitment to the holistic well-being and mental health of its workforce, reminding staff that seeking support is vital to a healthy work-life balance.

To ground the celebration in practical care, MUT brought top-tier healthcare and wellness providers directly to the staff. According to HR Advisor Nhlakanipho Mzobe, representatives from several key organisations were on-site to assist employees with health-related inquiries and provide preventative health education. These providers were Discovery Health, Bonitas Medical Fund, Simeka Health, and LYRA SA

A central highlight of MUT’s long-term wellness strategy is the official reintroduction of LYRA SA as the University’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provider. Through this partnership, all MUT staff members can access completely confidential, free-of-charge support services to help navigate personal and professional challenges.

The June activation serves as a stepping stone toward a much larger campus-wide event. HR&D has announced that the official annual MUT Wellness Day will be held on 22 October 2026 at the Student Centre.

With #JoyMagenta serving as the guiding light for the University’s workplace culture, HR&D is inviting the entire MUT community to actively participate in these upcoming initiatives. By cultivating gratitude, connection, movement, and creativity, MUT aims to reinforce a genuinely supportive and thriving environment for all employees.
