The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) Council demonstrated its collective commitment to the University’s strategic direction through its strong presence and support for the 2026 Founder’s Annual Lecture, held at the Durban International Convention Centre on 3 October 2026.

Led by Council Chairperson, Dr Mosidi Makgae, Council members rallied behind the prestigious occasion, reinforcing the importance of institutional leadership, good governance and shared responsibility in advancing MUT’s ambitions under its IGNITE 2030 Strategy.

The lecture, themed “Towards 2030: MUT’s Shared Vision for South Africa’s Higher Education Contribution to the Global World of Work,” provided an opportunity for Council to reaffirm its stewardship of the University’s founding vision while supporting its transformation into a globally competitive university of technology.

Dr Makgae’s leadership and the participation of Council members underscored the importance of unity between governance structures, executive management and the broader University community in realising MUT’s long-term aspirations.

The lecture also highlighted Council’s critical role in creating an enabling environment for academic excellence, financial sustainability, research development, innovation and strategic partnerships. These priorities are central to ensuring that MUT remains responsive to the changing needs of industry, society and the global economy.

The strong Council presence, as Dr Mosidi Makgae mentioned, “sends an important message to staff, students, alumni, industry partners and external stakeholders: MUT’s journey towards 2030 is a collective institutional undertaking, supported by a Council committed to ensuring that the Founder’s vision continues to translate into opportunities, innovation and lasting societal impact.”
