Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has concluded a three-day Annual Vice-Chancellor’s Planning Lekgotla. The meeting brings together the University’s leadership to shape institutional priorities and develop the following year’s Annual Performance Plan (APP). This time, it focused on developing the 2027 APP.
Led by Interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rushiella Songca, the Lekgotla was attended by members of the Executive Management Committee (EMC), Senior Directors, Directors and Heads of Departments from across the University. The broad participation reinforced the principle that institutional planning is a shared responsibility and that the successful implementation of MUT’s strategy depends on alignment across all levels of leadership.
The planning process focused on MUT’s five strategic goals, with Executive Management Members leading deliberations in their respective portfolios.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, Professor Marcus Ramogale led discussions on Goal 1: Future-Fit Learning and Teaching, while Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Bulelani Mahlangu led deliberations on Goal 2: Financial Sustainability. Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement (RIE), Professor Mncedisi Maphalala led engagements on Goals 3 and 4, focusing on Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, as well as Strategic Partnerships, Internationalisation and Visibility. Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Resources and Planning, Professor Bhekisipho Twala led discussions on Goal 5: Engaging, Inclusive and Supportive Environment.
The engagements gave MUT’s executive and senior leadership an opportunity to critically examine whether existing indicators, targets and planned interventions remain fit for purpose.
