Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has earned major national recognition after being named the only institution to successfully pass its latest accreditation assessment by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).

The announcement was made by the Chief Executive Officer of the SABPP during the professional body’s Annual Conference, hosted in Durban on 3–4 September 2026. The revelation placed MUT’s achievement directly in the national spotlight before HR and people-management leaders from across South Africa.

SABPP accreditation subjects institutions to rigorous external scrutiny, measuring their operational practices against high-level national standards designed to promote quality, professionalism, and robust governance in human resource management.

Expressing both joy and humility at the news, MUT’s Acting Head of Human Resources, Lwazi Mthimkhulu, noted that the milestone directly aligns with the University’s long-term strategic direction. “For MUT, being singled out at a national gathering of HR professionals reinforces the University’s drive to strengthen institutional effectiveness as we implement IGNITE 2030,” said Mthimkhulu. “The achievement demonstrates that transformation is about ensuring that the systems, people, and professional practices required to deliver those goals are strengthened and independently assessed.”

Mthimkhulu added that the public endorsement on a national platform sends a clear signal regarding the University’s operational maturity and openness to accountability: “Being recognised by SABPP on a national platform sends a powerful message that we are increasingly willing to have those practices independently measured against professional standards.”

The achievement marks another major milestone in MUT’s broader strategy to embed nationally benchmarked professional standards and sound governance across all institutional practices.
