Mangosuthu University of Technology appoints new senior director of IT&N

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has welcomed veteran ICT executive Nkosinathi Hendrick Zulu as its new Senior Director of Information Technology & Networks (IT&N). Zulu brings more than 18 years of high-level experience across higher education, government, and the private sector, bringing a wealth of strategic expertise to drive the University’s digital agenda. Zulu most recently served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Walter Sisulu University, where he led key initiatives in ICT strategy, cybersecurity, infrastructure management, and institutional digital transformation.

Zulu holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA), combining deep technical expertise with strategic business leadership that aligns with MUT’s long-term institutional goals.

In taking up his new role, Zulu expressed a clear vision for advancing MUT’s technology ecosystem. “I chose to join Mangosuthu University of Technology to leverage my experience in ICT to foster innovation, enhance ICT governance, and contribute meaningfully to the University’s digital transformation and growth,” said Zulu.

As Senior Director, Zulu will oversee the strategic direction and operational execution of MUT’s technical infrastructure. Key priorities under his leadership include digital transformation, which is about accelerating modern digital frameworks to enhance administrative systems, teaching, and learning platforms, ICT Governance and Cybersecurity. This area focuses on strengthening institutional data security, risk management, and compliance across university networks. And lastly, infrastructure optimisation, which will lead in modernising campus networks and IT service delivery to support staff and student productivity.
