The Institutional Advancement (IA) Directorate has officially extended its warmest congratulations to Dr Yvonne Mvuyana, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Economics, following her nomination as the Faculty Advancement Representative for the Faculty of Management Sciences. The nomination is a significant recognition of Dr Mvuyana’s demonstrated leadership, institutional commitment, and proven track record of bridging academic faculties, students, and broader university goals.
In her new capacity, Dr. Mvuyana will work directly with the IA Directorate to deepen ties between her faculty and the central advancement team. Her role is set to unlock key pathways for faculty-driven participation in philanthropy, strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and student development initiatives aligned with the University’s overarching priorities.
A central focus of Dr Mvuyana’s appointment involves coordinating Student Faculty Representatives for the University’s Student Giving Campaign, an initiative designed to cultivate a self-sustaining culture of “students supporting students.”
Highlighting the impact of the initiative, IA representative Zintle Mbili emphasized that student involvement changes the dynamic of campus giving. “Through faculty and departmental representation, students are positioned not merely as beneficiaries of philanthropy, but as active participants, ambassadors, and co-creators of a sustainable culture of giving,” said Mbili. “Dr Mvuyana’s role therefore extends beyond representation. It creates an important bridge between academic leadership, student engagement, and institutional advancement.”
The Faculty Advancement Representative model reflects a strategic shift toward viewing University development as a collective responsibility. Under this framework, long-term institutional progress relies on active collaboration across academic departments, support services, alumni networks, student bodies, and external partners.
According to Mbili, integrating academic leadership into philanthropic efforts lends vital credibility and strategic alignment to campus fundraising. “From a philanthropic perspective, the involvement of faculty leadership provides the institutional credibility, academic connection, and strategic coordination necessary to transform individual fundraising activities into a coherent culture of relational philanthropy, student agency, and collective impact,” Mbili noted.
The IA Directorate expressed enthusiastic support for Dr. Mvuyana as she assumes her duties, noting that her vision will help build an environment where giving leads to participation, participation fosters belonging, and belonging creates lasting institutional impact.
