While no formal memorandum of understanding yet exists among MUT, Amajuba District, and Dannhauser Local Municipality, the conversations held by the three partners on 6 and 7 May 2026 at the Darnacol Sports Centre were rich in possibilities. All parties expressed a sincere desire to see this collaboration grow into one that is sustainable, mutually beneficial, and, most importantly, transformative for the young people of the Amajuba region.

The MUT Open Day at Darnacol, a strategic recruitment event, is a reminder of what becomes possible when institutions set aside silos and come together in service of their communities. “To everyone who made this day happen, thank you. The next generation of MUT students is out there, and days like this help them find their way home,” said Mbali Mkhize, Marcomms senior director, after experiencing first-hand how MUT staff across faculties and departments are raising the bar in creating a positive perception of brand MUT.  The 27-person team that represented MUT at the Open Day, comprising academic departments, student support services, transport, MUT Radio, and Marcomms, projected to the community of Dannhauser an institution that is truly anchored in community development.  The positive impression and dedication of staff were lauded by partners.  “It is not every institution that would see so much value in a community like ours. Here, we do not have our own university; our learners need to travel to Durban or other provinces to access higher education.  We are literally the forgotten population. What MUT did for us is unimaginable, and we greatly appreciate your sense of stakeholder commitment and support,” said Reggie Khuzwayo, the Department of Education official, during the MUT Open Day at Darnacol Sport Centre.
