As the students and staff members of the University’s House Committees prepare to embark on their journey beyond graduation or into new roles within the institution, they are not just equipped with knowledge; they emerge as empowered individuals ready to make a difference. This transformation began during the impactful two-day House Committee induction held on 2-3 June 2025, where the Housing Manager, Siphakamiso Madlala, shared a vision of growth and responsibility.
The primary aim of the induction was to immerse the newly appointed House Committee members in their vital roles—a catalyst for change and a bridge between students and the University. Madlala articulated this mission beautifully, emphasising the essential orientation and training that would lay the foundation for each member’s success. Leadership development took centre stage, equipping them with crucial skills in conflict resolution, communication, and team cohesion. This nurturing of unity highlighted how they would support each other throughout the year’s challenges.
Throughout the induction, it became increasingly clear that these House Committees represent the heartbeat of student life. They are the advocates, mediators, organisers of educational and cultural initiatives, and compassionate peers who respond to crises. With each responsibility they embrace, they cultivate a vibrant community that not only nurtures academic success but also enriches the overall student experience.
