The 2025/2026 Student Representative Council (SRC), inaugurated on 30 September 2025, was inducted into office. Thabiso Zwane, Student Development Officer, said the purpose of the induction was to give student leaders a chance to learn about the different divisions of the University they will be working with during their tenure in the office. The theme of the event was “Sculpting the next generation of leaders”.
Dr Paulette Naidoo, Acting Dean of Students, said the three-day induction was the start of the SRC empowerment. “All you are going to learn will help you while in office. There are many units at MUT that you need to listen to, to develop holistically. This is only a start,” said Dr Naidoo after telling the SRC what the Student Counselling division does, and the process of getting help from the division. “You can tell us if there is anything more you need,” she said.
All the University units made presentations to the SRC over the three days. Over the three days, the student leaders contributed to the event by asking questions about the different divisions.
The student leaders also explained how what they learned was going to assist them to carry out their different tasks as per their portfolios. Snethemba Zungu, Religious, Arts and Culture Officer, said the three-day induction was informative, empowering, and inspiring. “It provided me with a deeper understanding of University structures and the crucial role the SRC plays in linking students with these services. I now have a stronger foundation to perform my duties as the Religious, Arts and Culture Officer, ensuring that my programmes not only promote cultural and spiritual values, but also support mental health, academic success, and community well-being. ” said Zungu.
Balungile Thungo, Gender, Disability, Health and Welfare Officer, appreciated the chance they were given to learn about the divisions of the University, stating that the programme provided valuable insights into the Institutions operations, policies, and initiatives.
