The MUT staff responded well to a call to attend the annual Wellness Day on 23 October 2025. Many staff had the chance to get updates on their personal matters and devoted some time to their health. They interacted with the following service providers: Discovery Health, Sizwe Hosmed, Old Mutual, Lyra SA, Simeka Health, SOS Optometrists, MUT Sport and Recreation Unit, MTN,  eThekwini Health, Forever Living, Imas Finance, Standard Bank, and Chery Pinetown, who transformed the Student Centre opening area and the seminar room into a proper marketplace.

Nhlakanipho Mzobe, HR Advisor, also one of the organisers of the event, said the intention of the Wellness Day is to encourage employees to pause, and prioritise their health and wellbeing. “This year we are humbled by the exceptional numbers of staff members that heeded the call to prioritise their health and fully participated in the day’s activities,” Mzobe said.

For their part, staff members left the venue with knowledge that will be of great help to them for the next 12 months. Among the staff members who checked their health and finances were Nomusa Nhlapo from the Procurement division and Xolani Mkhonde from Maintenance. Mkhonde checked his eyesight; the doctor advised him accordingly.

Also, as part of the Wellness Day, staff members and service providers participated in various sports. Five teams took part in netball – Izikhova, OPS Queens, SAPS, Kamyaluza and Student Affairs. The seven soccer teams were Kamyaluza, MUT Staff, Operations, Izikhova, Wardens, Olwethu Asanda and SAPS. There was an athletics race, the highlight of which was a 100-metre race that was won by Warden Bheki Mtshali, beating Deputy Director: Sport and Recreation Unit, Siyabulela Mkwalo. The goal for the sport part of the Wellness Day was to get staff and all others to participate and have fun.
