Vice-Chancellor inspires University community ahead of the Comrades Marathon

As thousands of runners prepare to take on the legendary Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 8 June 2025, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Nokuthula Sibiya, has extended warm wishes to all staff, students, and their families participating in this iconic event.

“The Comrades is more than a race; it is a journey that mirrors many of the values we hold dear as a university. To our runners, your commitment and courage are an inspiration to us all”, said Professor Sibiya. The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged the families and friends who have supported the runners throughout their training. “Behind every runner is a network of encouragement and care. Your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated. I wish all our runners a safe, strong, and unforgettable race,” the Vice-Chancellor concluded.

Sipho Dlomo, a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Law, will be taking part in the ultimate marathon. Dlomo will be running his 23rd Comrades Marathon. He said he will finish the race within 10 hours. He is now focusing on the final preparations of the race. “I am now drinking a lot of water; two litres a day, and taking in lots of carbohydrates,” Dlomo said. The 2025 race is a down run.
