MUT does what others fear to venture into – LOC member
The MUT divisions hosting the annual MUT Schools Community Cup have been widely commended for their handling of the tournament’s last edition, which took place on 18 and 19 August 2025, at the outer fields of the King Zwelithini Stadium and Victoria Mxenge Hall. Some of the stakeholders that showed appreciation for the initiative were officials from the Department of Education, officials from eThekwini Municipality, and the different sport organisations in Umlazi Township.
Here are some of the heartwarming comments from some of the stakeholders:
Vuma Mfeka, member of the local organising committee (LOC), former professional football player, and sport lover of note “MUT has started what many feared to venture into – bringing back school sports. Many principals are only focusing on matric results, sacrificing all sporting activities. MUT has proved that a school can take part in sports and still get excellent matric results. The schools that are part of this project got more than 80% in the last matric results.”
MaXulu Mshazi, from Umlazi Schools Netball Association:
“Our association is very proud to be part of the MUT outreach programme that transforms our learners through sport and academic excellence. We are at a loss for words to express our gratitude. As I always say learners can participate in sports and still excel academically. Let us hold our hands together to save our children from substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.”
Monde Khwela, District 6 Sports Confederation’s Public Relations and Marketing Officer
“Good day, everyone. On behalf of the District 6 Sports Confederation, we would like to express our gratitude to MUT management and their staff members, the LOC, volunteers, all the sponsors, and donors of the MUT Schools and Community Cup. We were very honoured to be part of the MUT Schools and Community Cup. We would like to say ‘job well done! Thank you”.
Hle Malevu, LOC member
“Thank you very much, MUT team. You have done a very commendable job. It was well executed and very impactful on our youth and the community at large. Well done, guys.”
