UNIVERSITY NOTICE

SUBJECT: Planned Water Supply Interruption – 8 to 9 July 2025
Dear MUT Community,
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Please be advised of a planned shutdown of the Wiggins Water Treatment Works Gravity System, scheduled to take place from Tuesday, 8 July to Wednesday, 9 July 2025.This shutdown has been announced by uMngeni-uThukela Water (UUW), the City’s bulk water supplier, to facilitate the replacement of 1200 mm sales and check meters and to repair a leak on the aqueducts. This work is essential to restore full capacity to the system, which has been affected since the April shutdown.
As a result, no water will flow into the City’s reservoirs during this period. The recovery of water supply may take up to three days after the shutdown, depending on consumer demand and reservoir levels. University facilities may be affected due to our location within the impacted zones. Staff and students are strongly encouraged to conserve water and use it sparingly during this period. Contingency measures will be put in place where possible to minimise disruptions to campus operations.
We urge everyone to plan accordingly and remain patient as the City works to complete the necessary repairs.
