This past weekend, MUT Radio proudly celebrated Umlazi-born artists who took home top honours at the Metro FM Awards. The Vukubangene Breakfast host, Awethu Kelese, welcomed rising star Neo Dube — born and bred in Umlazi — who won Best New Artist.

During the interview on MUT Radio, Neo shared her inspiring musical journey. After releasing her debut album, Neo was encouraged to enter Idols SA, a decision that opened doors for her career. This led to an international opportunity in Spain, where she lived and performed as a full-time musician for a year and six months.

Upon her return South Africa in 2024, Neo joined the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo  as Assistant Manager and PR officer. Despite her busy schedule, Neo’s passion for making music never faded. In February 2025, Neo released Ngimuhle, an R&B single that would go on to win her the Metro FM Award.

Other Umlazi winners included Linda Sikhakhane, who won Best Jazz Album for Iladi, and Usimamane, who took home Best Male Artist.

Awethu Kelese, Programmes Manager at MUT Radio, said that they remain committed to uplifting and celebrating Umlazi artists who are excelling and showcasing their talents on national and international stages.
