Part of the annual end-of-year function that took place at the University’s iconic Dr Pixley ka Seme Hall on 4 December 2025 was the long service awards. Although the University acknowledges everyone’s contribution, there are certain milestones that are recognised. These include 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service. There are individuals that stay beyond the 30-year mark. This year, 59 individuals were highlighted for their long service to MUT; 18 for 10 years; 28 for 15 years; six for 20 years; seven for 25 years; and 10 for 30 years. All together these staff members have dedicated 1195 years to the University. One of the MUT staff that have spent a quarter of a century at the Institution is Sibongile Princess Mzizi. Mzizi, a member of the Department of Finance, said she joined MUT at the age of 24. Mzizi said she has stayed at MUT “to give back since MUT has given me the lifetime opportunity to study”. Mzizi now has a Diploma in Accounting and a Bachelor of Technology in Corporate Administration. She had a matric when she joined MUT. Mzizi says that her high point at MUT was when she was given a chance to work in different departments. Mzizi is now a Debtors Officer. She started off as a cleaner. Mzizi also noted that the University was steadfast on helping disadvantage students. She is impressed by the fact that MUT assists its students to obtain bursaries to clear their historical debts so that the historic debt decreases, and the financial position of the University continues to be stronger.
Mzizi also observed the infrastructure of the University growing, the latest development being the Student Centre, which she said has made a “huge difference”. Mzizi ended by saying that she was “so proud of being one of MUT employees and will continue to serve the students with a smile and warm heart. I will stay at MUT until I retire”, Mzizi said.
