The countdown to the annual MUT Schools Community Cup is in full swing. On 12 August 2025, members of the local organising committee (LOC) inspected the King Zwelithini outer grounds, and Victoria Mgxenge Hall, where football and netball are going to be played. The LOC members also inspected the boardroom where chess is going to be played. They were happy with all that they saw. So it is all system go for the event that will take place on 18 and 19 August 2025.
This visit to the grounds was preceded by a lot of other steps, such as visiting the participating schools to take photographs of the learners that will be playing, the training of officials that will officiate the matches, and most importantly, a training for the LOC members on safeguarding. Safeguarding in sport refers to the practices and procedures put in place to protect children and adults from harm, abuse and neglect while taking part in sport. Safeguarding includes creating a safe environment, promoting ethical behaviour, and seeing to it that everyone involved in sport participates without fear of violence, harassment, or exploitation.
