Former staff member returns to take a crucial post at institutional planning department

Ayanda Nongogo

On June 1, 2025, Ayanda Nongogo took on the role of Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) at the Directorate of Institutional Planning and Research (DIPR). Nongogo brings over 15 years of experience in institutional planning and more than a decade in higher education leadership. With a strong background in strategic reporting, enrollment planning, and data governance, acquired in a range of traditional, comprehensive, and university technology settings, Nongogo has consistently demonstrated her ability to turn complex data into insights that inform executive decision-making. Her return to MUT in a permanent capacity, following a previous stint as Acting Director MER, marks a significant step forward for the University’s performance monitoring, statutory reporting, and institutional research agenda. Having previously served as Acting Director MER, and Deputy Director of Management Information at MUT, Nongogo now takes on the Director MER role with renewed intent to deepen the University’s culture of evidence-based decision-making and enable governance-aligned reporting that drives strategic outcomes.

Nongogo said her key vision “is to steer strategic reporting conversations across the Institution in ways that are rooted in sound governance practices aligned with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) frameworks. Recognising that MUT already has a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework in place, my focus will be on defining its implementation within a more focused, simplified approach driven by University executives and managers responsible for delivering on strategic objectives”. Through strengthened reporting cycles such as the Annual Report, Mid-Year Performance Report, and Institutional Operational Plans (IOP), Nongogo aims to support data-informed performance tracking, promote institutional accountability, and reinforce compliance with the auditing of pre-determined objectives (AOPO).
