We are publishing a humble yet encouraging letter from an MUT graduate who has just graduated with a Master’s degree in Commerce with a focus on Marketing. The letter, from Mthokozisi Gumede, addressed to the Department of Marketing and Communications, is almost verbatim.
‘I am thrilled to share the news of completing my Master’s of Commerce in Marketing at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on 18 September 2025. As a statistics tutor who also assists Marketing students in Sales Management, Marketing Management, and Research, I am grateful for the journey that began at Mangosuthu University of Technology.
Dr Mabaso’s guidance and recognition of my potential in 2018 sparked my tutoring career. Since then, I have had the privilege of supporting students from the Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, and Engineering departments.
I would like to extend my gratitude to MUT for employing Dr. Mabaso, who believed in me, and for providing opportunities for me to grow as a tutor. I am passionate about helping students overcome challenges in Statistics, a skill that many find daunting.
To fellow tutors, I encourage you to pursue further studies and aspire to a career in academia. It is not easy, but the field needs young, dedicated professionals like us. My goal is to become a lecturer, and with the right support and determination, I believe I can achieve it soon.
