The Pwani University’s reviewed BSc Geology and Earth Resources Programme will now be presented at the Departmental and School levels and through other relevant University structures for further processing before it is officially launched. This is mainly through an effort by one of the MUT senior staff members, who recently spent some time in Kenya. The Research Professor in the Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences, Theo Davies, did some sterling work for the Pwani University in Kenya. The Department had developed a new programme, the BSc Geology and Earth Resources, which was at an advanced stage. Dr Bertha Othoche, of the Department of Environmental Sciences, said they “thought it wise to invite Professor Davies, an experienced Research Professor in Environmental and Medical Geology, a Chartered Geologist, and Environmental Consultant, to re-look at the curriculum with a view of enriching and aligning it to market needs, together with Department of Environmental Sciences (DES)”. Professor Davies strengthened the BSc in Geology and Earth Resources Programme. Dr Othoche said that “indeed, the faculty gained enormous knowledge from Professor Davies, and the new input and knowledge infused in the programme will make it one of the best in the region”. Professor Davies shared the revised Geology programme and the associated matrix for further guidance.
Professor Davies’ work with Pwani University is a result of a Memorandum of Understanding MUT signed with Pwani University in 2024.
