On 19 September 2024, the University had its annual Student Representative Council (SRC) elections. These elections were won by the South African Student Congress (SASCO). SASCO got five seats from the 2468 votes. The Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) got four seats from 1703 votes. The other two seats went to independent candidates, Neheletso Kabi, who had 2609 votes, and Nkanyiso Ngubo, who had 2521 votes.
The SRC portfolio allocations took place on 25 September 2024; the newly elected SRC was constituted as follows: The President is Nkanyiso Ngubo, and the Deputy President is Sikholiwe Nokusa Khumalo. Kabi Neheletso is the Secretary-General. The other portfolios are as follows: Treasurer General is Andiswa Mkhize; Faculties Officer is Olwethu Msomi; Residence Liaison Officer is Thabiso Zuma; Sports Officer is Mzamo Mncube; Project and Student Development Officer is Bayanda Cele; Media and Publicity Officer is Senzi Khumalo; Religious, Arts and Culture Officer is Sobuhle Nkabinde; and Health and Social Welfare Officer is Nosihle Mjoli. Student Development Officer, Dr Mthoko Ntuli, said the 2024-2025 SRC will be inaugurated on 2 October 2024 at the Student Centre.
