This week, Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) appointed a new Registrar, following the retirement of Mike Naidoo who served the institution for over 25 years. Dr Phumzile Masala, who has been acting Registrar since Naidoo’s departure last year, started in this new role at the beginning of the month.
Dr Masala said he will continue executing the roles of the Registrar, which include providing sound advice to the University Council, its Senate, the Institutional Forum, and Convocation, to enable these bodies to play their governance roles.
“In this regard, the main plan in the next five years is to strengthen the cooperative governance model that will ensure that these statutory structures work in tandem. On the academic administration, the main plan is to work with faculties to ensure complete automation of academic administration processes so that the student experience is enhanced,” said Dr Masala.
Dr Masala also pointed out that the University needed to revise its academic rules to bring them on par with those of sister universities to enhance the academic integrity of MUT qualifications. “In the final analysis, the graduates of the University must be proud of carrying the certificates of the University,” said Dr Masala.
