MUT to pay staff salary increases this week
Please cite Mbali Mkhize, MUT Spokesperson
Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) will pay its staff salary increases on Friday, 28 May 2021. This is the amount of money that staff should have received as part of the salaries from January 2021 had organised labour and university management agreed on a salary percentage increase and have it approved by the University Council.
In a communication to campus yesterday, MUT Acting Vice-Chancellor & Principal, Professor Marcus Ramogale said: “I am also pleased to inform you that the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has confirmed that the salary increase will be paid on 28 May 2021. For some staff members, the amount paid may reflect a day after 28 May, depending on the bank they use.”
The decision to pay out the increases comes after the university Council sat at its special meeting on 20 May and approved a 5,08% salary increase that the University management and organised labour agreed upon. The University has decided to pay out the amount this week to reduce any unnecessary delays in getting the money to staff, who should have received it as part of their salaries since the beginning of the year.
