Two teams of three MUT students in each are preparing to spreads their wings. These students were selected and took part in the Redbull Can you make it competition, where each team shot a minute-long video demonstrating to the judges why they should be chosen.
The competition gives students the platform to travel over six countries using cans of Redbull as their currency. Redbull will assist students without passports to get them provided they are picked to be part of the competition.
One group is made up of the Redbull Opinion Leaders on campus. These are former Mr MUT, Sipho Moyane, Sanele Madida, MUT hockey coach and MUT student, Sanele Shange. The second group, which is all female, is made up of Akani Masinge, Xolukuhle Msomi and Nomcebo Ndlovu.
Second year Marketing student and Redbull Student Branch Manager for MUT, Nkululeko Sithole said the Opinion Leaders were selected because of the influence they hold on campus, while the other three were chosen on a first come basis.
“Last week I placed posters around campus and students reached out to me,” said Sithole. “I picked the first respondents.”
The competition will be based on adventure and extreme sports, in line with Redbull’s identity as a daring brand. Videos of all entries will be posted on the Redbull South Africa website and Redbull Can you make it website.
Entries close on 17 February and students will be notified if they are chosen on 9 March 2020. The actual competition starts in April.
