MUT remembers those lost to Aids

On 19 June 2018 MUT had a candlelight ceremony in remembrance of every life lost as a result of Aids. The Candlelight Memorial is an annual event commemorated in the Month of May, but MUT could not do it during May. Health Promoter in the Clinic, Bongiwe Sithole, said the event was meant to give hope to those that were living with the HI virus. “Our message is that if you are HIV positive, you can still live a fulfilling life.  We are also trying to highlight the fact that there is still a stigma associated with people living with HIV. This is the biggest threat because it discourages people in general from testing.” Bongiwe added that there was still a need to intensify the fight against HIV and Aids. The event was attended by a big number of students, a clear indication that the message was heeded. But there is still a need to do more, given the challenges.
