Continuing on its fast-paced internationalization route, MUT hosted a guest from the South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF) and Helin Bäckman Kartal. Accompanying Kartal, were Professor Unathi Kolanisi, Head of the Department of Consumer Sciences at the University of Zululand, Nothando Qumbisa, a Lecturer in the same department, and Andile Mthembu, a Master’s Student at the same university. Mthembu is the Chair of SASUF. Qumbisa is also involved in the forum.
The purpose of the meeting was to explain the advantages enjoyed by SASUF members and offer MUT the opportunity to be part of the forum. The guests were taken around the University’s main campus. The guests were impressed by the new Faculty of Engineering block.
“MUT will now get an opportunity to collaborate on projects with 38 universities that are part of SASUF. We aim to strengthen collaboration between South Africa and Sweden, and the research activities by the staff from universities from these countries,” said Kartal.
Kartal said the research done should be guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Kartal also said that the funding for research will be offered by the universities at which applicants are employed, Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher education, and the National Research Foundation.
