Three hundred and fifty students from 16 institutions from all over South Africa participated at the conference. Chairperson of the Green Campus Initiative MUT, Fundile Maqhekeza, said they prepared well for the conference. “In our presentation, we talked about the Green Thursdays during which we advise staff and students to be environmentally conscious, and the need to live a green lifestyle. There is a lot still to be done, but we have made an impact,” Fundile said. Fundile said they also sent out green quiz via the social media every Wednesday. The winner of the quiz was awarded with airtime. Also, there was a recycling competition where they challenged students to bring their own trash to the Natural Sciences Faculty and re-use the trash. Student created some beautiful items like vases, pencil holders, etc. Green Campus Initiative MUT is in partnership with Umlazi DSW, with whom they have a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
