I still live there! This is how Samkelo Cele, Public Administration graduate at MUT, responded when asked where he was living. Sam Favour, as Cele is known by his listeners, is now a presenter/anchor at East Coast Radio (ECR). He has a music show on Saturday.

“The show focuses on fun and social topics. On Sunday I have a show in which I play local music,” said Cele. Cele started working at ECR on 11 May 2019. He was contacted by ECR’s Programme’s Manager, Zane Derbyshire, with a show proposal. Cele had applied for a show at the station. He said he was excited and grateful that he came to the popular KwaZulu-Natal radio station at the right time. “Taking over such a big show overwhelms me,” he said.   Now Cele communicates with the station’s 1 101 million listeners. He still lives in Kenville, an informal settlement overlooking the Umngeni River in the Springfield area of Durban.

Cele cut his teeth at a community radio station, DYR 105.1 FM, where he had been working since 2017.
