South African boxers between the ages of 12 and 16 are ready to descend upon Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) for the South Africa National Boxing Organisation (SANABO), which runs from 12 to 15 December 2022 at Seme Hall.
Bongile Ganyile, Sports Officer at MUT, said although the tournament was not for university students, it would contribute to the development of the sport in various provinces.
“It (the tournament) will contribute towards uplifting boxing in eThekwini and revive the sport. Local kids who aspire to be boxers have never competed at a national level. It is their chance to get to see the level of competition at a national stage.”
Participants from all South African provinces were invited and only representatives from the North West Province will not participate.
“Our boxers will be helping as volunteers with the visiting teams,” said Ganyile. “A total of 12 boxers, including their coach will assist visiting teams.”
Ganyile added that weigh-ins will take place from 06h00 to 08h00 every morning, while boxing matches are scheduled for 12h00 to 20h00. The public is invited to watch.
