MUT first-year students return to the University in September
Upon receiving advice from the Department of Higher Education & Training, the University’s Executive Management Committee (EMC) has resolved to return its first-year students in the beginning of September 2020.
In a communication to campus, Dr Manyane Makua, Acting Senior Director: Teaching and Learning at MUT, informed the University community that the Institution was expecting first-year students to return to campus from 29 August 2020. As part of the preparations for the return of students, the University continues to put systems in place to ensure the seamless and safe return of first-year students. Student permits will be ready by 28 August 2020.
Dr Makua also said that the university had made arrangements to orientate students to COVID-19 procedures. From 26 to 28 August 2020, first year students will receive training on Covid-19 protocols and regulations. Further training (face to face) will take place at the University’s Bozzoli and Seme Halls from 31 August – 2 September 2020. The training will take place in groups of 50 students at a time in line with social distancing regulations. The students who would have missed the face-to-face training will be given online training via Microsoft Teams on Thursday and Friday of the same week.
Face-to-face lectures will commence on 3 September 2020. First-year students will be able to collect their printed learning materials from Bozzoli and Seme Halls from 31 August to 4 September 2020. Further logistics will be communicated to students as soon as they return to residences.
Second-year students will return later as determined by government’s Lockdown regulations. These students will be assisted to participate in teaching and learning activities through the University’s various platforms. Printed materials have been prepared for distribution or collection on dates to be announced soon.
