MUT boxer voted best in USSA Games

Well done son! Sibusiso, left, with Dr Malaza, middle, and Willie

A proud Willie Mkhwanazi, the Deputy Director of Sports department could not hold back excitement when he needed pictures for a newspaper that was going to write a story about Sibusiso Mhlomi. The newspaper was more than impressed by Sibusiso’s performance in a boxing tournament which took place at the North West University as part of the annual University Sports South Africa (USSA) Games. Sibusiso (64kg), won all three bouts he fought. The referees had to stop two of these. Sibusiso won the third one by points, defeating a DUT boxer. “I was chosen the best boxer of the tournament. My last fight was selected as the best fight of the tournament; and my coach was voted as the best coach of the tournament. I knew that as MUT boxers we would make a big impact,” said Sibusiso. Five MUT boxers took part in the tournament.  MUT’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Enoch Duma Malaza was very impressed by Sibusiso’s achievement.
