Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has a new Chancellor. Sandile Donald Muziwenkosi Zungu (known as Sandile Zungu) was appointed to this role by the MUT Council in its third ordinary meeting, which took place on 22 and 28 September 2022. Zungu replaced Lindiwe Sisulu (MP), whose tenure ended. Zungu’s tenure will end in September 2026.
Zungu was born and raised in Umlazi Township. He matriculated from Vukuzakhe High School (in Umlazi) and went on to complete a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town. He also completed the Programme for Global Leadership at Harvard Business School.
Zungu is a highly-respected businessman, whose track record includes being the founder and Executive Chairman of Zungu Investments Company (Pty) Ltd (Zico), Chairman of EOH Holdings, non-executive Director of Grindrod Limited and Novus Holdings, member of the BRICS Business Council, President of the Black Business Council, member of the Presidential Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council, and Chairperson of the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) Board of Advisors. He has also won numerous awards in recognition of his business activities.
To soccer aficionados, Zungu is better known for being the owner and President of AmaZulu Football Club, a Premier Soccer League soccer club based in Umlazi Township.
Zungu’s success is one that needs to be told by him on MUT Radio and on various MUT’s digital platforms. It is surreal and must be told over and over again, to inspire the youth, students and everyone. A session with Zungu on MUT Radio will be scheduled in the near future.
