IT&N urges staff to use self-service facility to manage passwords

The University’s Department of Information Technology and Networks (IT&N) has made arrangements for staff to manage their passwords remotely as they work from home. Staff can now go on the University website, and register on the staff portal before they would be able to change their passwords. They need to click on ‘staff portal, then click on ‘self-service password reset’. “We are appealing to staff to use our facilities to reset or change their passwords and unlock computers. Staff are requested to streamline the use of this facility. This will be easier than calling the Helpdesk, or coming to the IT&N offices every time users have to change their passwords or unlock computers,” said Thembeka Mkhize, IT&N’s Service Desk Agent.

Njabulo Xaba, who is responsible for data security in the department, said if staff took advantage of this facility, they would improve data security for the University. Data integrity is one of the most important pillars when it comes to cyber/information security, Njabulo said.
