ICT student creates home perfume business

It has always been nice when a good plan comes together! The MUT publications continue to feature students in business, a very nice song to those that promote entrepreneurship among the students. One of such people is Professor Marcus Ramogale, the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal. This time around we feature a second year ICT student, Zinhle Shezi.

Zinhle says she has always been business-minded. “For as long as I can remember I have always been selling something but it has always been something, albeit informally,” said Zinhle. Zinhle said in March 2020 she registered her business. She said she was encouraged by Sli Dlamini, a Lecturer in the Department of Information Communication and Technology.

“During Lockdown, I didn’t like the idea of having a registered company and not doing anything towards it. So, I sat down and made a list of my past failures, all the things I had tried selling before. I did some introspection to see where I went wrong. I decided I would choose something from that list that I could give a second shot at. I decided upon creating home fragrances as this seemed more convenient because I wanted something that would not be too demanding and interfere with my studies,” said Zinhle.

Zinhle’s company is Springs Home Fragrances. “It is a manufacturing company, we carefully blend different types of oils and other resources to produce products such as reed diffusers, candles and room mist sprays. Our products help create a perfect atmosphere for any occasion,” said Zinhle.
