Former SRC Presidents stand shoulder to shoulder with the distressed student leadership

MUT stakeholders  showed solidarity; the court visit was widely covered by the media

Kwenza Madlala, the 2013 SRC President, now also President of MUT Convocation, member of MUT Council and also Chair of the HR Committee of Council,  attended court proceedings over the brutal death of Zolile Khumalo. Also in attendance were 2016 and 2017 SRC Presidents, Ronnie Madlala and Vezi Simelane, respectively. Vezi is now a Durban South Region SASCO Chair. There were also several alumni who were previously in student
leadership.  Most felt that femicide should be condemned in the strongest sense. “We are here to provide support to the current student leadership. It cannot be that students no longer feel safe on campus for fear of what men could do to them. We want to send a strong message to all men that if this ever happens again, men must be at the
forefront of condemning these brutal acts against women,” they said.

Sandile Dlamini, the SRC President whose call for students to attend the court proceedings was heeded by
hundreds of students, said: “Our students must feel safe on campus and criminality must be rooted out.”
