Registration 2022

PREREGISTRATION

  • What is an offer?

An offer is communication from University Student Administration, informing an applicant that their application has been successful, and they have a place at MUT.

  • What is the difference between a firm and conditional offer?

Conditional offers are only given to applicants who are currently writing Grade 12. Conditional offers are subject to applicants meeting all the entry requirements when the final results are out in January 2022.

A firm offer is SMS communication from the university to an applicant stating that they have been granted a place to study at MUT because they meet all the entry requirements. A firm offer is accompanied by a student number. Applicants who have been given firm offers are also expected to accept firm offers and pay the R500 acceptance of offer fee. If they do not accept the firm offer within the allocated period, the firm offer is given to the next applicant.

  • How do I accept my firm offer?

When accepting a firm offer, you are required to pay R500 to MUT bank account, quoting your student number as reference. The R500 that you pay when accepting a firm offer is part of the R1650 (semester students) or R2750 (annual students) registration fee that you will have to pay depending on whether you are a semester or annual student. You will be required to produce proof of payment of the R500 to get financially cleared to register.

  • I got an offer but didn’t apply for NFSAS.

NSFAS applications are done directly to NSFAS. www.nsfas.ac.za

  • I have N3 and N4 do I qualify for engineering?

N4 certificate from a South African TVET college with a 50% pass accompanied by your National Senior Certificate are the minimum requirements to qualify to study at MUT. However, some departments have additional requirements.

  • I did not apply through the CAO, but I want to study at MUT

Application to MUT is done through the Central Application Office, only applicants with a CAO number and have selected MUT as their first or second choice will be considered for a place at the University.

Also note that MUT does not entertain walk-ins in any way.  Please publicize or communicate in your platforms that MUT WILL NOT ENTERTAIN WALK-INS.

  • I lost my sms communication with the details of my firm offer, what do I do?

Contact 031 907 7181/ 7180 if you lost your SMS communication. Bring the following documents to the University’s Step 1; certified copy of RSA ID and proof of payment.

Send your CAO / ID number to info@mut.ac.za for an SMS.

  • What happens if MUT is not my first or second choice?

MUT will only consider you if you have made it your first or second choice – if you have not made MUT your first choice you will not be considered.

The department (that you made second/third choice) will take a final decision and inform you if they are interested in your application. Preference is given to applicants who make MUT their first choice based on applicant’s final results.

Application forms are available MUT website and candidates need not apply via CAO.
